Sit in one of the local restaurants or cafes along the lakefront and admire the snow-capped mountains of the Southern Alps in the distance, or stroll around and browse the many boutique shops and art galleries the town offers. If you love the outdoors, you will also find a number of specialist sports and recreational shops in Wanaka.

Wanaka Activities

In winter Wanaka is home to a variety of winter sports. The lake provides an impressive back drop while skiing at Treble Cone and Cardrona Alpine Resort just around the corner, offers a variety of terrain from beginner to expert. If this is not enough, there is also the option of Heli Skiing in Mount Aspiring National Park and beyond!

In Summer the lake transforms into a water sports paradise. Learn to sail, charter a yacht, parasail, enjoy a motorboat cruise, wakeboard, jetski, SUP, kayak and more. There are a multitude of ways to experience Lake Wanaka. The mountains also offer the ultimate in hiking and mountain biking during the summer season. Hike the local Mount Aspiring National Park or famous Mt Roy, e-bike at Bike Glendhu, have a round of golf or visit the local vineyards. There is a wealth of cycling and walking tracks starting right by our property, along the Clutha River, which is a picturesque spot for outdoor pursuits including kayaking and jet boating.

Cardrona Alpine Resort is also offering a number of local activities in the summer including mountain biking, mountain carting and hiking, or the Cardrona village itself offers fantastic quad bike or horseback tours, most of which finish at the iconic Cardrona Hotel.

For the adventurous, Wanaka also offers some adrenaline activities including Skydive Wanaka, Wild Wire (the world’s highest waterfall cable climb) and paragliding.

If you are looking for some quieter or rainy-day activities why not visit Puzzling World, just a minute’s from Wanaka Haven, relax at the world-famous Cinema Paradiso or Ruby’s Cinema, explore Warbirds and Wheels Museum, fish at Hook, visit Wanaka Lavender Farm, Cardrona Distillery or try your hand at Crossfire.
